FAQ

If you have a question that is not answered here feel free to email me at amyclarkeart@gmail.com.

HOW DO I BUY AN ORIGINAL PIECE OF ART? I create as many paintings as I can and release them on my website a few times a year so you can purchase directly from my studio. These pieces vary in price and size. You can keep updated about my newest paintings through my social media or by joining my mailing list (linked below). My paintings are available here.

WHAT IF I SEE A PAINTING ONLINE AND I DON’T WANT TO WAIT? If you see something you really like on my social media that is not listed on my website please email me at amyclarkeart@gmail.com or fill in a contact form to discuss purchasing options.

WHO ACTUALLY OWNS THE PAINTING/WRITING/CREATIVE CONTENT? Unless stated otherwise I retain all rights to all artwork, writing and original research I undertake. I retain the right to make reproductions of any and all work I create unless the collector/client has purchased the full or partial rights to the work (this is in addition to purchasing the original).

I retain the copyright of my work as the author and artist. You may not reproduce my work without prior written consent or claim to be the author of it.

The collector, buyer or client may not reproduce the work in any way without written permission.

If an image of the work is reproduced in a magazine or other media I ask to be credited as the creator of the work.

When you purchase an original painting or piece you, the buyer, have the right to display the artwork in your home or business. The work may not be resold or reproduced without my written permission.

Let me know if you would like to purchase full or partial rights to your piece. Some collectors may choose to purchase my right to reproduce the work to ensure it will never become a print and stay even more unique. I am happy to discuss this with you, so do get in touch.

CAN I COMMISSION A PAINTING? I have limited openings for commissioned work each year. Commissions will take up to 8 weeks to complete, so please allow enough time if you have something in mind for a special occasion. Due to the slow drying time oil paintings will require an extra 4-6 weeks to make sure nothing is smudged or damaged before it can be delivered to you (allow 3-4 months in total). Please contact me to discuss your ideas and commission options to see what I can do.

PRINT QUALITY AND DETAILS: All reproductions of artwork are Giclee reproductions from professional art inkjet machines. They are printed on textured heavyweight paper, which gives the print the bright colours and handcrafted feel of an original work on paper. Unless listed otherwise individual prints are made to order and so can take up to 2 weeks to deliver to the U.K. (For international orders please see shipping information below.)

PROTECTING YOUR PAINTING OR PRINT: To ensure your purchase stays in excellent condition keep it out of direct sunlight in a dry room (hanging in a bathroom next to your steamy shower or bath may cause problems!). Please do not hang unframed prints or paintings with tape as this can peel away some of the pigment and damage the surface of the paper or canvas. Which brings us onto…

FRAMING: I highly recommend framing your prints and originals. Not only will they look beautiful but framing will also protect your piece from dust and damage. While I do not offer framing from my studio for all artwork I can recommend framing options to suit your piece and keep it as safe as possible. Prints and work on paper should be framed behind glass with a mat, this makes it look more elegant and also helps to protect the piece from moisture damage. Win-win! Unless otherwise stated my oil paintings on deep edged canvas or panel come unvarnished and can be hung without framing, although there are framing options available to provide additional protection.

HOW IS MY PIECE GOING TO BE SHIPPED? Buying a piece of art is a luxurious and special purchase, and I like to make it feel like you are unwrapping a gift. Each painting is wrapped in paper with a wax seal, but if you would like me to leave it unwrapped (if the painting is a present to someone else and you want to have a look at it first!) please send me a note with your order.

Originals: Oil paintings take a long time to dry and I won’t post a painting until it is completely ready to be tightly packed (between 4-6 weeks after painting completion). All artwork is wrapped in glassine and tissue paper and padded and supported extremely well with bubble wrap, then sent in brown paper or a cardboard box. Particularly large works will be either posted as unstretched canvas or couriered in a box for added protection. Paintings that require this type of delivery will state this in the product description. Works on paper will be supported with cardboard to keep it flat. Most pieces delivered to the U.K. are sent via MyHermes or other carrier and will arrive within 48 hours of confirmation of posting. I will contact you with tracking information and estimated delivery times.

Prints: All prints are wrapped in tissue paper or a plastic sleeve. Smaller prints (up to 8x11" inches) will be posted in a flat reinforced envelope, while larger prints will be send in a cardboard tube.

International Shipping: Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on weight and distance. If there is any discrepancy -/+ I will contact you. International delivery is a bit outside of my control; border fees, duties and handling fees may be charged by other countries and tracking can be more unreliable. However I have delivered artwork as far as Australia before, with great success!

Shipping costs cover packaging supplies, time, labour, fees and storage.

RETURNS: Every sale is handled with as much care and clarity as possible. I want you to be delighted with your purchase! Due to this all sales are final except for certain situations. I do not accept liability for any mishandling or failed delivery by the shipping service. Please take time to read descriptions of items carefully, note the labelled sizes given and check colours on multiple screens if you are concerned about colour variations. I try my best to represent my pieces honestly and clearly. Please email or contact me if you have any questions about products and I will work with you to try and resolve any issues.

WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES: I love to encourage others in creativity and learning, be it in writing, history or painting. If you would like to work with me to host or develop a class on an area of my expertise I would love to hear from you. I plan to host some creative workshops in Bath in the future - if this is something you would be interested in please sign up to my mailing list to be the first to hear about workshop spaces when they become available!

STOCKISTS AND GALLERIES: I am so honoured you want my work on your walls and in your shop! Please send me an email to discuss your gallery and ideas about how we can work together at amyclarkeart@gmail.com.

INTERIOR DESIGNERS: I would be very excited to work with you, as I love seeing my pieces in a beautifully well-styled room. Please email me at amyclarkeart@gmail.com to discuss discounts on prints and the use of original artwork. I do not allow my work to be marked up without my prior written consent.

PRESS: I love working with writers, bloggers, journalists, editors and stylists! You are welcome to use images from my website as long as they are credited to me or the photographer (if a photographer is indicated). Please contact me for any other images or if you have any questions at amyclarkeart@gmail.com. I am always open to interviews and happy to share my story. I would also love to see what you produce, so do get in touch!
