This painting was inspired by a local walk just outside of Bath, through the fields near Stoney Littleton Longbarrow. I often walk there towards the evening. I was listening to a podcast about Van Gogh while walking by the fields and dreamed up this landscape, with the shape and texture of the landscape but the colours and time of day of Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’. This painting is about the calm of evening and the knowledge that there are many more days out there and that so much of life moves through seasons and with this in mind we should slow down and enjoy little pleasures and fleeting moments as they pass.

The sides are painted white to make sure this landscape painting looks clean and good from every angle
